I developed a passion for pottery on a trip to Europe in 1985. Old French pottery and nature are my inspiration for the art work I create.
The woods of Northern Michigan, where my studio is located, also provide much inspiration for my pottery.
I use stoneware to hand build each piece. Rims are manipulated to appear as birch wood, oak or pine branches. Every piece is one of a kind. All my pottery have stained bottoms and rims making them truly unique. They are durable, dinner and dishwasher safe.
Working alone in my studio I make all the pottery start to finish, they are tediously shaped by hand. A technique of paddling, stretching and adding artisitic elements are used for my unique pottery.
When the pottery is dry, I bisque fire them to approximately 1900 degrees. They are removed and carefully inspected and then the glazing begins. My glazes are as unique as are my designs. The pottery is then fired again to approximately 2200 degrees. These firings take approximately 25 hours.
I am now working on dinneware with white birch ceramic rims. My method insures that every piece of pottery is unique and no two are ever the same.
My pottery makes an artful additon to any home and therefore makes for great gift giving.
I hope to see you at one of my many art shows in 2012. See my schedule for information on the shows, they will be entered as I receive confirmation.
Thanks for visiting!
